Solar Eclipse
On Friday there was a Solar Eclipse. We used special glasses, a welder's mask, colander and paper plates with pinholes to see the eclipse safely. We discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe by not looking directly at the sun. We also helped some children in the Infants to use some of the items too.

Cycling
Last week year 6 did a cycling course. On the first day we cycled around the yard. We learnt how to cycle safely. We also learnt how to signal, stop, get on our bikes safely and cycle in a straight line looking backwards. We all passed level 1! The two teachers were Ed and Andrew.
They taught us how to ride on the road safely. We went on the roads for level 2 we did signals looking behind us and our ABC's. ABC stands for air, brake and chain. Most of us passed level 2. We did snaking that means we do the same thing that the person in front does. And when we had our last lesson we all had certificates for passing level 1 and level 2. It was amazing for the past few days, We really enjoyed it!

1960s Talk by Mr Francis
Mr Francis then talked about other icons of the era, such as The Beatles, Cilla Black, Richard Burrton and Anthony Hopkins.
We then went on to find out about the assassinations of J.F. Kennedy, the President of America and Martin Luther King and how these events shaped the future for all people.
So what happened in Llanharry in the 1960s? The Workingmen's Club was opened in the 60s. A pint of beer would have cost 5 1/2d!!
The village would have day trips to Barry Island too. One year, 700 people went and they needed 17 buses to take them!
At one point in the decade, nearly 400 pupils attended our school!!! Some of the shops were opened in the village during the 60s.
Ysgol Llanhari first opened in 1960. It was initially called Llanhari County Secondary School but became a Welsh School in 1975.

Our App presentations
Class 7 have been busy coming up with ideas for a new app for a Smartphone. They have researched the competition and in a Dragon's Den style, they have presented their 'pitch' to the rest of the class. The ideas were very interesting .....
Selling Cocktails!
First of all, the children studied a range of non alcoholic cocktails and asked other children what flavours they preferred. They then designed a cocktail of their own.
After a class discussion, the children decided to sell their cocktails to the Junior department. They then had to work out how much they would need to make and how much it would cost. They researched prices using the Internet. After that, the groups had to price their cocktail in order to make a profit!
With the help of Mrs Coates, the children ordered their ingredients from Tesco. Even the delivery man wanted to taste them!!!
The children worked extremely well on the task and all groups made a profit!
Da iawn Dosbarth 6!!!
